Looking for a song : Sha-la-la-la-la, I want you

Hello,

I'm looking for references of a song I recorded from a (supposedly)
New Order CD album.
10 years ago I borrowed "Substance" from my local CD library; the box
contained a CD with a blank tag (no name, just a copyright), and the
number of songs did not match the back cover of the box, so I fear
someone at the library had swapped two CDs off their boxes.

It happens that I found one of the songs was really great, so I hope
someone can help me identify it; I don't know the name of the song,
nor even if it's New Order really : but if the CD was indeed not the
correct one, I hope it came from not too far within someone's New
Wave/Punk shelf, so there's hope some of you know it anyway!

The song starts with a bass line then two voices (or a voice with
effect) singing along "if we... leave this town... we could be so
close together"... I skip the verse lyrics (english is not my primary
language), until the chorus, which is quite identifiable:
then one or two male voices sing "Sha-la-la-la-la, Sha-na-na-na-na",
whereas a female (or high-pitched male) voice sings "I wa-ant you".

Sorry fans if that looks a bit shallow for New Order lyrics! ;-)
Indeed this song has none of the cold, warehouse-like sound of "Love
will tear us apart", but some of the nearby songs on the album had.
I really hope someone can lend a hand all the same...

Go get yourself a copy of the "shallow" Brotherhood record and put the
needle down in the groove on track 1...

Thanks guys (two replies, flawless). Nice to live in Internet
time.
Someone DID swap CDs off their boxes, but thank God it was a New
Order CD all the same!

Hey I didn't mean the whole album was shallow (I said just the
contrary), just that the extract I provided looked like it was written
at the back of a high-school math class!
Plus, the Sha-na-na thing does not sound coldwave ;-)

Anyway, I love this song enough I'd buy the album for it alone!
Thanks again.

Yup, definitely Paradise from Brotherhood. A friend told me
that this was issued as a single in Australia and I have the
remix of it on tape (I think), although it's not much different
from the album version. By the way, punk? New wave? Coldwave?
The first two terms died out over twenty years ago and the
latter I've never heard of!

Cheers
Al
